The Belly of the Beast challenge contestants was tasked with creating a CG image, inspired by the complex and unconventional geometries that Mike Pryor creates. Artists were required to picture a Belly of the beast scenario.
Thank you to the D2 Challenge #2 Judges;
Michael Pryor, Pavlina Vardoulaki, Jason Bergeron and Fabio Palvelli.
SiNi is thrilled to sponsor the competition and support our community. We are forever inspired by the incredible talent submitted by the community, no matter what the subject matter of the challenge is.
First place - Agnieszka Skwirut
Agnieszka is a freelance archviz artist working in Barcelona, Spain.
‘I’m a Polish CG Artist based in Barcelona. My adventure with CG art started during my architecture studies and in time, became a real passion and career path.
From the youngest age, I have been communicating through hand-drawing. I believe it helped me to shape my imagination and develop my attention to detail, and even though nowadays I spend most of the time creating digital art, I still am drawn to bring to life my original ideas on paper.
The same thing happened in case of the D2 Challenge #2 “Belly of the Beast”. I started sketching while watching the introduction video, then I just started playing with it in 3D.
My whole romantic idea was to show somehow the beauty in the beast and get rid of the bad side of it.
To create the feeling that a monster can actually have feelings or suffer. I didn’t have it clear from the start how exactly I’m gonna do that so I experimented a lot with colours, depth and the final touches.
Finally, the minimalist finished image was also an intentional decision. I found it more powerful for the visual story I wished to tell. I felt like, in this case, less is more.’

Second place - Boris Jivkov
Boris is a senior visualiser at Visual Method in Soia, Bulgaria.
‘I tried to approach the theme of the competition in a more untraditional way. "To be in the belly of the beast" as in to be in the middle of a bad situation - in the middle of a battle.
Part of the brief was to use geometries provided by Michael Pryor. In my case, those are the towers connected to the main ship. I also used a variety of ready-made models to create the battle and the surroundings - Quixel Megascans for the environment and Mixamo for the characters.’
